The later versions of TD-160 and TD-126, at the end of the nineteen seventies, had mats which supported the record in a better way and on top of it they were made of a harder rubber which contributed to a far more dynamic and precise performance. The standard issue Thorens rubber platter mat does not allow the use of record clamps. I fashioned this mat out of a top layer of cowhide and a sub-layer of stiffened felt. The two layers are glued together, then glued to the outer platter.
